I’ve spent a lot of time at airports, seeking the exhilaration of low-flying aviation. This zine gathers together a series of black and white photographs I’ve taken of aircraft over time – a small collection I’ve been holding onto.
Putting together the pages, I think on the first time I saw the Antonov 124 at Sydney International. I remember the familiar Boeing 717 routes in Canberra, now retired, routes picked up by newer aircraft. But I also recall the rhythm – the quietness between movements, the anticipation, the tracking, and the many hours spent with my family and partner watching these industrial feats arrive and depart.
Aves is a documentary, photography-based, hand-printed zine, by an avid plane-spotter. A small record of observation, physics and wonder – with some small writing inclusions.
